My Story
Back in June of 2021, I decided to apply for an outdoor semester school called "Alzar". Alzar means "to rise" in Spanish, and as the name suggests, Alzar focuses on building motivated students who can lead change. During our semester, we got to spend 7 weeks in the Aysén Region of Chile. On our experience away from home, we got to adventure to the peaks of Patagonia along the Sendero Furioso (Furious Trail), as well as partake in student-led cultural exchange in the capital of Aysén, Coyhaique. To finish our semester, we travelled back to the gem state of Idaho. For the last 8 weeks in Idaho, the wilderness expeditions kept coming and my culminating leadership project was created!

When I began brainstorming ideas for my culminating leadership project, I wanted to involve something that I loved and connected to. For the first part of my project, I wanted to incorporate baking. Over the COVID-19 pandemic, I started a small bakery in Blue Ridge Shores, VA on Lake Louisa. The company was called "Loaves on the Lake" and sold fresh baked bread every morning to the local lake community. The bread always sold out and my love for baking continued to grow. For the second part of my project, I thought it would be great to give back to the military community. My grandfather was a United States Air Force Fighter Pilot and the person I look up to the most. I couldn't think of any community better to donate fresh pies to! With all of that in mind, I got to work and Baking a Difference was born!
